Wierer recieves the Joel and Ruth Spira Excellence in Teaching award!

With great pride, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering announces that Lutron Electronics has awarded Jonathan Wierer, associate professor, the Ruth and Joel Spira Excellence in Teaching Award. Established with an endowment by the Lutron Foundation, this award recognizes individuals who excel in the classroom by instructing, inspiring and helping students apply the fundamentals of engineering. In addition, Lutron honored two other faculty members at Lehigh University in the departments of Computer Science: Dr. Eric Baumer, and Mechanical Engineering: Dr. Keith Moored.

Ruth and Joel Spira founded Lutron Electronics in 1961. Joel Spira, Chairman, Founder and Director of Research passed away in April 2015 after providing a 54-year leadership to Lutron. Joel and Ruth Spira support Excellence in Teaching awards at Carnegie Mellon University, The Cooper Union, Cornell University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Lehigh University, M.I.T., Muhlenberg College, Penn State University, the University of Michigan, the University of Notre Dame and his own Purdue University.
