Chair's Message

Greetings from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Lehigh University and welcome to our website. It is my honor and great pleasure to lead this vibrant department, where things do happen and life is never boring.

We are proud to enroll and educate top quality students, who are typically valued and highly paid when they spread their wings after getting their degree from us. We are strongly committed to both graduate and undergraduate education, building upon our long history; Lehigh was one of the first universities in the world to offer an Electrical Engineering degree, and this year we are going to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of our first graduating class.

One of our unique features is our excellent student/faculty ratio of 6:1, permitting a lot of individual attention and interaction with students at all levels. Here you are not just a number, but an individual recognized for your personal worth and carefully nurtured to full potential. Another interesting detail is that we have one of the highest percentages of female professors in Electrical and Computer Engineering departments across the country. We welcome diversity in all its forms, and encourage it wherever we can.

Our dynamic faculty has various areas of expertise in the broad and dynamic field of electrical and computer engineering. Notably, we are leaving our footprints and doing lauded research in circuits and systems, electric energy, applied physics, communications, bioelectronics, and computer engineering. Most of all, we are training our students to be adaptable in our rapidly evolving field.

Our research and educational programs are enhanced by strong interdisciplinary interactions with other departments in engineering, mathematics, and science. ECE faculty provide leadership to major research centers on campus such as the Center for Photonics and Nanoelectronics and Integrated Networks for Electricity Research Cluster, and actively participate in the Health Research Hub research, as well as the Center for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology. I invite you to explore our website to see the myriad opportunities afforded to you academically and in research at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Please browse individual faculty pages, and look at the accomplishments of our current grad students and undergrads in the Students section.

If you are a dreamer, a leader, and like a challenge, this is the place for you to learn and grow. Please come and meet us in person.
