Communication & Signal processing

Communication focuses on the transmission or dissemination of information across a channel such as a coax cable, optical fiber or free space, and signal processing is the enabling technology for the generation, transformation, and interpretation of information. As wireless communication networks and handheld devices today increasingly dominate information dissemination and exchange in almost every walk of life, research in communication protocols for next generation networks and the design and implementation of novel signal processing algorithms are of imminent importance.

The faculty in the communication and signal processing group are engaged in cutting edge research in the areas of distributed and adaptive signal processing (with applications in networked sensing, MIMO radar and image fusion), wireless communication systems (with current emphasis on multitier wireless networks and cognitive radio), error control coding (code design and VLSI implementation) and information security and privacy in networks. In addition, the faculty in the Communication and Signal Processing group are continually engaged in collaborative interdisciplinary efforts with faculty in the Computer Science and Industrial Engineering departments with current emphasis on the advancement of communication and information processing infrastructure in smart energy distribution networks.
