The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Lehigh University is inviting applications for a tenure-track associate or assistant professor position beginning in 2010.

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Lehigh today has 21 full-time faculty working in a collaborative environment, and is nationally recognized for its vibrant research programs in areas including Optoelectronics and Photonics, Nanoelectronics and Nanoelectronic Integrated Systems, Signal Processing, and Wireless Communications and Networking. These areas are enhanced by university-wide research centers with strong ECE participation, including the Center for Optical Technologies, the Sherman Fairchild Center for Solid State Studies, and the Center for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology. More information about ECE academic programs and research activities is available at http://www.ece.lehigh.edu/.

The disciplines of ECE are critically enabling to Lehigh’s interdisciplinary research initiatives at the intersection of nano, bio, info, and opto technologies, and the ECE Department seeks to work with other departments in the P. C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science and the College of Arts and Sciences to aggressively strengthen research expertise in these integrative areas. The ECE Department has recently taken bold steps to advance research in optics and optoelectronics, with applications including biophotonics, sensors, communications, solid state lighting, energy and photovoltaics. To support these initiatives, the new Smith Family Laboratory for Optical Technologies has recently been added with state-of-the-art compound semiconductor epitaxy and materials characterization, as well as a fully equipped shared research clean room facility.

Many of these research initiatives are strongly impacted by breakthroughs in underlying device, materials, and materials processing technologies. The ECE Department is inviting applications for an associate or assistant professor position with priority given to candidates whose research interests span these underlying areas and associated integrated applications. The position will also include oversight of the Smith Family Laboratory for Optical Technologies clean room, with a charter to advance the capabilities of this shared facility to support multidisciplinary device and integrated subsystem research across the university.

All candidates should have the ability to pursue a high impact research program and a commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level. Applicants should submit a cover letter, a complete curriculum vitae, statements of research and teaching, and the names and contact information for at least three references by December 14, 2009 to our on-line application process that can be found on our department website. A start date of August 23, 2010 or sooner is preferred but applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Questions can be addressed to the Search Committee Chair, Prof. T. L. Koch, at tlkoch@lehigh.edu.
