  Short Biography:

Dr. Nelson Tansu was born on October 1977, and he received his B.S. degree (Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, and Physics [AMEP]; with Highest Distinction) and his Ph.D. degree (Electrical Engineering, with specialization in Applied Physics) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in May 1998 and May 2003, respectively. He was a recipient of the Bohn Scholarship, the WARF Graduate University Fellowship, the Vilas Graduate University Fellowship, and the Graduate Dissertator Travel Funding Award, the 2003 Harold A. Peterson ECE Best Research Paper Award (1st Prize) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. From July 2003 till April 2009, he was an Assistant Professor and Peter C. Rossin Assistant Professor (Term Chair 2007-2009) in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and the Center for Optical Technologies (COT) at Lehigh University. Since May 2009, he has been appointed as Associate Professor (with tenure) in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and Center for Optical Technologies (COT) at Lehigh University. Dr. Tansu is also a recipient of the 2008 Libsch Early Career Research Award at Lehigh University.

   His research works cover the theoretical and experimental aspects of the physics of semiconductor optoelectronics materials and devices, the physics of low-dimensional semiconductor (nanostructure), and MOCVD & device fabrications of III-Nitride and III-V-Nitride semiconductor optoelectronics devices on GaAs, InP, and GaN substrates. Dr. Tansu has published widely in numerous refereed international journal and conference publications (total > 162), and he also currently holds several US patents. He had served several times as a panel member for US National Science Foundation, US Department of Defense, and other agencies in US and abroad. Dr. Tansu has also given numerous lectures, seminars, and invited talks (total > 36) in universities, research institutions, and conferences in USA, Canada, Europe, and Asia. Dr. Tansu serves as the Primary Guest Editor of the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics Special Issue on Solid State Lighting in 2008-2009, and he also serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE Photonics Journal (2009-present) and as Assistant / Associate Editor for Nanoscale Research Letters (2007-present). Dr. Tansu was also an invited General Participant at the 2008 National Academy of Engineering (NAE)’s U.S. Frontiers of Engineering (FOE) Symposium, and he also serves as the Organizing Committee for the 2009 NAE’s U.S. Frontiers of Engineering Symposium.

  Short Biography:

Dr.Gensheng Huang received his PhD degree in Semiconductor Materials and Device Physics from Chinese Academy of Sciences (Shanghai, China) in 2000. Previously, he received both his MS and BS degrees in Physics from Shandong University (China) in 1997 and 1987, respectively. Since 2004 (till June 2007), Dr. Huang has been a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at National Chiao Tung University (NCTU-Taiwan) working in wide bandgap semiconductor optoelectronics research. Prior to his appointment at NCTU, he was a Research Fellow in the School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore (from 2000-2004).

Since July 2007 (till present), Dr. Huang is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the MOCVD Lab (Tansu Group) at Lehigh, working on MOCVD epitaxy of dilute-nitride and III-Nitride optoelectronics materials and devices, and he also has more than 20+ publications to his credit.

  Short Biography:

Dr. Juan A. Herbsommer received his PhD degree in Physics from Instituto Balseiro, Universidad Nacional de Cuyo (Bariloche, Argentina) in 2000. After that (till 2003), Dr. Herbsommer has been a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Bell Labs , Lucent Technologies working on MEMS and Thin Film Resonators (piezoelectric devices).

Since March 2008 (till present), Dr. Herbsommer is a Research Fellow in the MOCVD Lab (Tansu Group) at Lehigh.

  Short Biography:

Hua Tong received his B.S. degree (Electronics Engineering) and his M.S. degree (Electronics Engineering) from Tsinghua University, China in 1998 and 2001, respectively. Currently he is a doctoral student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and the Center for Optical Technologies (COT), within the P. C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science at Lehigh University (Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA).
 
His research areas cover the fundamental material / device physics, epitaxy (MOCVD) and fabrication of semiconductor optoelectronics devices based on semiconductor nanostructures. His research works include studies of thermal properties of III-Nitride materials, theoretical / computational simulations of III-Nitride semiconductor materials and nanostructures, AlInGaN based thermoelectric devices, surface plasmonics, epitaxy (MOCVD) and fabrications of novel III-Nitride semiconductor devices, and novel approaches to enhance figure of merit of AlInGaN based thermoelectric devices, absorption coefficient of PDs, gain coefficient of intersubband transitions based on III-Nitride semiconductors.

  Short Biography:

Hongping Zhao received her B.S. degree (Physics) from Nanjing Normal University in 2003 and her M.S. degree (Electrical Engineering) from Southeast University, China in 2006, respectively. Currently she is a doctoral student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and the Center for Optical Technologies (COT), within the P. C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science at Lehigh University (Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA).
 
Her research interests are in the field of semiconductor optoelectronics, covering fundamental studies on novel spintronics devices, MOCVD epitaxy and fabrications of HEMT laser on GaN substrates.

Xiao-Hang Li received his B.S. degree (Physics) from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China in 2008. Currently he is a PhD student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and the Center for Optical Technologies (COT), within the P. C. Mr. Li's previous research covered applications of magnetic fluid and TEM & First Principle analysis of GaN/InGaN Multiple Quantum Wells. His current research interests are in the field of semiconductor optoelectronics, covering fundamental studies on solid state lighting, MOCVD epitaxy and fabrications of LEDs.

Guangyu Liu received her B.S. degree (Electronic Science and Technology) from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China in 2008. Currently she is a PhD student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and the Center for Optical Technologies (COT), within the P. C. Ms. Liu's previous research covered the research concerning micro and nanoelectronic, including the design of PTC sensors, the computational simulation of nanoparticles, and modeling and microelectronic fabrication process of MOSFET devices and Nano-Magnetic Films. Her current research interests are in the field of semiconductor optoelectronics, covering fundamental studies on MOCVD epitaxy and fabrications of III-Nitride devices.

  Short Biography:

Tidapan received her Bachelor's degree and the Master’s degree in Chemical Enginering from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, in 1996 and 1999 respectively. She was employed as a senior investment promotions officer in the Electronics and Electrical Industries Division of the Board of Investment underneath the Ministry of Industry of Thailand. Her major responsibilities took care of all electronic companies that have invested in her country. Because of the need to keep up with the technologies related to this field, she have tried to gain more knowledge and skills in electronic technology by pursuing graduate education in electronics.
 
In 2008, she has been the Master's Degree candidate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, within the P. C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science at Lehigh University.   Short Biography:

Vincent Handara was born in Jakarta, Indonesia. He entered Sang Timur High School (Jakarta, Indonesia) and received his high school diploma in June 2003. For his Bachelor of Science degree, he attended the University of Wisconsin – Madison majoring in Physics and graduated in May 2008. During his time at UW-Madison, Mr. Handara had research experiences in both applied and fundamental physics. In applied physics, he explored the properties of biological ion channels using semiconductor materials such as glass and quartz. In fundamental physics, he studied the computational/theoretical aspect of superconductor proximity effect using numerical simulation skills in Matlab and Mathematica. He also developed the experimental ability to study the property of high temperature superconducting state of YBCO material.
 
Currently, Mr. Handara is a Master of Science’s candidate in the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Center for Optical Technology at Lehigh University. His current research interest is surface plasmon covering its fundamental study and application in fabricating optoelectronic devices.

  Short Biography:

Shaofei Zhang received his B.E. Degree (Optoelectronic Information Engineering) from Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing, China in 2007. Later in 2007, he worked in Third Research Division of Nanjing Fiberglass Research & Design Institute. Half year later, he joined Lab of Photonics and Optical Communication, Department of Electronic Engineering in Southeast University as a research assistant.
 
Currently he is a MS student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and the Center for Optical Technologies (COT), within the P. C.   Short Biography:

Wu, Nan-Lung received his B.S. Degree (Mechanical and Electro-Engineering) from Sun Yat-sen University, Taiwan in 2004. He then served in coast guard Coast Patrol Corp 11 (radarman) until Jan 2006. Later in 2007, he worked in Inventec Co., Taipei, Taiwan as an assistant engineer responsible for testing and improving mechanical defects of latest prototypes.
 
Currently Mr. Wu is a Master of Science’s candidate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Center for Optical Technology at Lehigh University. His research interests are in the field of semiconductor optoelectronics on MOCVD epitaxy and fabrication of III-Nitride devices.

  Short Biography:

Joseph B. Mulhern grew up in Haverford, Pennsylvania, and attended the Devon Preparatory School. He received a B.S. in physics from Villanova University in 2008, where he was involved with research related to microstructured optical fiber evanescent-wave sensor devices. In the summer of 2007, he participated in the NSF Physics Research Experience for Undergraduates program at Lehigh University, where he worked on a CMOS amplifier for use in biological cells. After graduating from Villanova, he worked for Lockheed Martin in Moorestown, New Jersey as a radar systems engineer. Currently he is working towards an M.S. in Energy Systems Engineering and is interested in semiconductor technology and its applications to the energy industry.
